Idol 2004

The first season of Sweden's Idol premiered in August 2004 and continued until its grand finale on 26 November, when 26-year-old Daniel Lindström from Umeå was crowned winner. The series gained rapid notoriety during its audition stages, when the Swedish press questioned several comments made by the show's four judges. The most famous of these concerned a girl who was told that she sounded like "she was singing on the Estonia [ferry] when it sank."

Idol 2005

The second season of Swedish Idol premiered in August 2005 and continued until its grand finale on 2 December, when 17-year-old Agnes Carlsson from Vänersborg was crowned winner. The series was the first to crown a female Idol and is to date the sole season to be won by either a public or judges' wildcard contestant. Of the over 120 Idol winners worldwide, Carlsson is one of only three who gained a place in the finals as a judges' wildcard. The others are 2003 Canadian Idol winner Ryan Malcolm and 2007 Australian Idol winner Natalie Gauci. Carlsson has since become the most successful recording artist in the show's history.

Idol 2006

The third season of Idol premiered in Sweden on August 29, 2006 and continued until its grand finale on December 1, when 24-year-old Markus Fagervall from Övertorneå was crowned winner. The series gained a record-breaking 1.1 million viewers during its first episode, and was the last season to feature Claes af Geijerstam as a judge, who left the series citing financial issues.

Idol 2007

The fourth season of Swedish Idol premiered on September 3, 2007 and continued until its grand finale on 7 December, when 28-year-old Marie Picasso was crowned winner. It was the first season to feature an all-female finale, and is to date the only season to crown a winner who had previously fallen into the 'bottom three' during the finals, with Picasso landing there twice. It was the first season to hold its grand finale at the Globen Arena in Stockholm, and to date holds the record for the largest live audience at an Idol final anywhere in the world, with a crowd of 16,000 people. The finale also featured a live performance by international superstar and original American Idol winner Kelly Clarkson. It was the final season to feature judges Daniel Breitholtz, Peter Swartling and Kishti Tomita, who all bowed out for various personal reasons. Season 4 of Idol is also credited with discovering the unique talent of runner-up Amanda Jenssen, who went on to achieve enormous commercial and critical success in Sweden, and steady international notoriety.

Idol 2009

Idol 2009 was the sixth season of the Swedish idol series and was broadcast by TV 4. The jury, identical to the previous year, consisted of Anders Bagge, Laila Bagge and Andreas Carlsson. Peter Jihde, the show's host, was also a continuation of the previous year's cast. The audition cities visited during the spring of 2009 were Gothenburg, Gävle, Malmö, Stockholm and Umeå, respectively. Around 11,000 people applied for Idol 2009, establishing a new Swedish record. During auditions in Stockholm on 25 April, Idol 2008 winner Kevin Borg performed for the candidates, as well as Johan Palm who finished fourth in Idol 2008. In Gothenburg, Erik Segerstedt from Idol 2006 performed; and in Malmö, Sibel from Idol 2005. In Gävle, Idol 2008 runner-up Alice Svensson sang to the applicants; and in Umeå, Daniel Lindström from Idol 2004. After the final of Idol 2008, the Idol producers said in a video on TV4's website that "Idol 2009 will be bigger than ever!" at the same time confirming that Idol would come back again during 2009. On 18 March TV4 published times and places for the year's audition tour. The programme started broadcasting on 8 September 2009. After each show a program called "Idol: Eftersnack" was to be sent on TV400. As with the previous year, Katrin Zytomierska and Peter Jihde were the hosts.

Idol 2010

The seventh season of Swedish Idol premiered on September 7, 2010 and concluded in December 2010 and was broadcast by TV4. Judges Anders Bagge, Laila Bagge Wahlgren and Andreas Carlsson continued to judge the show's contestants for their third year, along with, for the fourth consecutive year, Peter Jihde as host.
